Sofitel Krabi recognised for combining luxury with long-term sustainability initiatives

Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort has received the International Sustainability Awards for its dedication to regenerative hospitality, merging eco-conscious practices with a luxury holiday experience on Thailand’s Klong Muang Beach.

Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort has been recognised with the International Sustainability Awards for what the judges described as a long-term commitment to regenerative hospitality, adding an environmental accolade to one of Krabi’s better-known luxury beach resorts. The award highlights a property that is trying to pair a polished holiday experience with practical conservation work, from reducing waste on site to involving guests in local restoration efforts.

Set on Klong Muang Beach, close to Ao Nang, the 276-room resort combines French-inspired styling with Thai warmth, making it a strong fit for travellers who want a large, full-service stay without losing sight of the destination. According to the resort’s own website, it offers a nine-hole golf course, Thailand’s largest free-form swimming pool, a spa with L’Occitane, and easy access to Krabi’s beaches and islands.

What sets the resort apart is its attempt to make sustainability part of the guest experience rather than something hidden behind the scenes. Its regenerative programme invites visitors into activities such as beach clean-ups, marine conservation, nature walks, environmental education and upcycled souvenir workshops. The resort says this approach is designed to give travellers a more meaningful connection to the place they are visiting while also supporting local conservation.

The property’s environmental efforts are supported by longer-running operational measures. More than three quarters of the resort has been kept as green space since it opened, according to the hotel, and its CSR page says it has also worked to cut single-use plastics, support local artisans and promote wildlife conservation. Accor’s MICE site says the resort has achieved Green Key and Green Globe certification, which typically require hotels to meet sustainability standards around waste, energy use, local sourcing and cultural preservation.

For guests, the appeal goes beyond environmental credentials. The hotel promotes a broad wellness offer that includes spa treatments, yoga, guided runs, Muay Thai, golf classes and sleep-focused room features such as Sofitel MyBed. Dining spans Thai, Italian and international options, while private boat trips can be arranged for those hoping to explore the surrounding islands. Jonathan Rudd, the general manager, said in a statement that luxury travel is increasingly linked to purpose and that the award encourages the resort to keep creating value for both guests and the local environment.
