Langham's Bangkok Riverside hotel revitalises historic Custom House with luxury and heritage integration by 2026

The Langham is set to open a $6 billion riverside hotel in Bangkok by late 2026, melding luxury accommodation with the restoration of the 1888 Custom House and former post office, featuring Thai-inspired design and returning flagship brands.

The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is moving towards a late 2026 debut on the Chao Phraya River, with the project framed as both a luxury hotel and a careful act of restoration. According to Langham Hospitality Group, the development centres on Bangkok’s historic Custom House in Bang Rak, a landmark dating to 1888, when it was built under King Rama V and symbolised Thailand’s opening to the wider world.

The scheme blends that heritage setting with a new riverside structure containing 75 rooms and suites, while a former post office is being reworked for guest facilities. Langham and Rabbit Holdings, an affiliate of BTS Group, have said the project represents an investment of THB 6 billion and will include the return of signature Langham brands such as Chuan Spa and T’ang Court, the Cantonese restaurant concept associated with the group’s luxury properties.

Design by Thai architect Smith Obayawat of OBA is intended to echo the river’s curves rather than compete with the old customs building next door. The hotel’s interiors will lean on natural textures, muted lighting and subtle Thai references, with public areas in the restored Custom House and adjoining heritage structures intended to welcome not only guests but also local visitors. Langham has also named Nick Downing, formerly of The Siam in Bangkok, as general manager as it assembles the team ahead of opening.
