Koh Samui surges in European search interest as Thailand's top summer destination

Koh Samui secures its position as a favourite among European travellers through Agoda's search data, blending luxury, local charm, and natural beauty, boosted further by its appearance in 'The White Lotus'.

Koh Samui is enjoying another moment in the sun, with travel platform Agoda ranking the Thai island among the five Asian destinations most searched by European tourists for summer stays. In the same period, Bangkok took first place, Bali was second and Koh Samui came third, ahead of Tokyo and Pattaya, according to Agoda’s search data.

For travellers, the finding reinforces what has long set Koh Samui apart: it is big enough to offer variety, but still compact enough to feel manageable. Travel+Leisure has also singled it out in its 2026 list of the world’s most beautiful islands, praising its white-sand beaches, forested interior and mix of luxury resorts, Buddhist temples and more modest beachfront stays.

That balance is part of the island’s appeal. Koh Samui still has coconut groves, fishing villages and small bungalows along the coast, so visitors can still find a more relaxed tropical atmosphere alongside the higher-end hotels that now shape much of its accommodation offer. Its profile was also boosted by its appearance in the third season of "The White Lotus", which gave the island a wider global audience.

The broader picture is good news for Thailand as a summer destination. Agoda said Thailand remained the most searched Asian market among European travellers for the second year running, while its wider travel insights suggest the country continues to draw visitors from across Asia as well. For holidaymakers planning a Thailand trip, that means Koh Samui remains one of the strongest choices for a beach break that combines easy resort comfort with enough local character to feel distinct.
