TransNusa launches direct Bangkok-Jakarta route, boosting regional connectivity

TransNusa begins twice-daily direct flights between Bangkok and Jakarta, offering a new, convenient link coveted by leisure and business travellers amid rising Indonesian tourism to Thailand.

Bangkok has gained a new direct link to Jakarta as TransNusa began twice-daily flights between the two capitals on 6 August 2026, giving travellers a faster option for short breaks, business trips and onward connections across Thailand. The inaugural service landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport with 174 passengers on board, underlining immediate demand for a non-stop route between two of South-east Asia’s busiest cities.

According to TransNusa, the schedule runs 14 times a week, with morning and afternoon departures designed to suit both leisure and corporate travel. The airline says fares are being introduced from IDR 2,999,000 one way, while the flight itself takes about three hours. Jakarta and Bangkok share the same time zone, which makes the trip especially straightforward for weekend visitors and travellers who want to avoid the hassle of transit stops.

For visitors, the most practical benefit is flexibility. TransNusa says the service includes checked baggage, meals and a full cabin service, positioning the route as a more comfortable alternative to lower-frills regional flights. The carrier’s route page also notes that the direct connection links Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand’s main international gateway, making it easier to reach central Bangkok or connect onwards within the country.

Thailand’s tourism authorities see Indonesia as an important source market, and the new route reflects that. Tourism figures cited by the Tourism Authority of Thailand show 378,881 Indonesian arrivals between 1 January and 2 August 2026, with most travelling independently and many returning visitors. Bangkok remains the main draw, but Indonesians also travel to Phuket, Krabi, Chon Buri and Songkhla, often for food, shopping, spa visits and beach holidays.

The launch also points to wider growth plans. According to TransNusa and Thailand’s tourism partners, a Bali-Phuket route is being considered for late 2026, which would further improve access to one of Thailand’s most popular holiday islands. For travellers, the broader trend is clear: more direct air links are making Thailand easier to reach for weekend escapes, family trips and multi-stop itineraries, especially from Indonesia’s large and increasingly mobile travel market.
