TransNusa launches direct Jakarta–Bangkok flights to boost Indonesian tourism to Thailand

TransNusa begins twice-daily flights between Jakarta and Bangkok, promising more convenient travel options and aiming to significantly increase Indonesian tourism to Thailand amid rising demand for regional travel.

Thailand has gained a new direct link to one of its fastest-growing source markets, with TransNusa beginning twice-daily flights between Jakarta and Bangkok on 6 August 2026. For holidaymakers, the main appeal is simple: more choice, better timing and an easier city break into Thailand’s capital, with all flights serving Suvarnabhumi Airport, the country’s main international gateway. TransNusa says introductory one-way fares start from IDR 2,999,000, which could make the route attractive for travellers weighing up a short escape or a longer multi-stop trip in the region. TransNusa said the service is designed to improve convenience for both leisure and business passengers.

The new route follows a memorandum of understanding signed in Jakarta on 4 August 2026 between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa. According to the airline and Thai tourism officials, the aim is to encourage more Indonesians to visit Thailand through joint promotion and stronger air links. That matters because Indonesia is a large and growing market for Thai tourism, and the added schedule flexibility should make Bangkok feel more accessible for weekend breaks, shopping trips and short family holidays.

Thailand has set a target of 890,000 Indonesian visitors in 2026, and official figures cited by local reports show 376,337 arrivals from Indonesia through 31 July. The average stay was six nights, which suggests Indonesian visitors already tend to spend enough time to make a meaningful trip beyond Bangkok alone. For travellers, that often translates into more room to add a beach extension, a cultural stop or a few days of hotel hopping and dining in the capital.

For many visitors, the biggest practical change is that Jakarta no longer has to be treated as a hub-and-spoke journey to reach Thailand. Direct flights remove the need for awkward connections in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and can make last-minute planning far easier. Two daily departures also help when arranging onward domestic flights within Thailand, or when trying to fit Bangkok into a wider ASEAN itinerary.

TransNusa is also preparing a direct Bali–Phuket service, due to start on 9 September 2026 with four flights a week. The airline says the route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with departures from Denpasar in the morning and a return from Phuket in the afternoon. For leisure travellers, that creates a straightforward link between two of the region’s most popular beach destinations and could be especially useful for people planning a sunshine-heavy holiday without the hassle of a complicated transfer.

Taken together, the Jakarta–Bangkok and Bali–Phuket routes point to a clearer, more consumer-friendly travel picture between Indonesia and Thailand. TransNusa says it is trying to meet rising demand for regional trips, while Thailand is looking to convert that demand into more visitor arrivals. For travellers, the immediate benefit is better access: more direct options, more convenient timing and a greater chance of finding a Thai getaway that fits both budget and schedule.
