A new Danish visa application centre has opened in Chiang Mai, offering a more convenient option for residents in northern Thailand and reducing the need for trips to Bangkok.
People in northern Thailand no longer need to make the journey to Bangkok to submit a Danish visa application, after Denmark opened a new visa application centre in Chiang Mai on 1 September 2026. The move should make the process noticeably easier for applicants based in the north, particularly those living in and around Chiang Mai.
The new centre is run by VFS Global and is located at 91 Siripanich, 1B Floor, Huaykaew Road, Suthep, Muang, Chiang Mai 50200. According to VFS Global, it is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 08:00 to 16:00, and applicants must book an appointment online before visiting. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs says applicants also need to appear in person to provide biometric data as part of the visa process.
For travellers, the main benefit is convenience: fewer long-distance trips, less time off work and a simpler route for those applying from northern provinces. The Danish embassy said the Chiang Mai centre is intended to offer a more practical option for residents of the area, with applications and appointments handled through the Embassy of Denmark in Thailand. The process is similar to Denmark’s standard visa system, in which online submission and advance booking come first, followed by an in-person visit for the final step.
